The UnderSorrow

This painting expresses my grief and despair over the ruthless cruelty of the war in Ukraine, the murderous attacks of October 7 in Israel and the horror of the violence done to Gaza. I’ve been viscerally impacted by the pain, brutality and desolation humans inflict on each other, almost as if it were an assault on my own body. Totally unplanned, from the marks I put down in my great sadness, emerged lines and shading that look like birds to me, like a phoenix rising from the ashes. This painting holds both the hope and the grief.
