Vessel V

The painting is set in a green mat sized at 18 x 14 inches, suitable for a standard frame

of those dimensions.

In this study I've layered impasto collage over watery veils of color,

blurring the edges between inside and outside.

This is another expression of my love of vessels

--vases, bowls, baskets, amphora; glass, ceramic, porcelain, reeds, rusted metal--

they all have a serviceable beauty and hold a universe of paradox--

empty, yet ready to be filled; they have helped feed our spirits and our bellies for millennia.

They are mysterious and utilitarian, historical and ordinary. And supremely female in form and function.
